Q&A

Handling precautions

About mixing procedure
Generally additives (e.g. resin) is preferably mixed to various sol under stirring, not adding sol to resin.
About binding property of SNOWTEX®
Silica particles perform binding property when heated over 500℃.
About coating property of SNOWTEX®
Films cannot be obtained by coating only silica particles. If silica sol is used for coating application, resin should be used as binder together. In comparison with silica sol, silicate solution are likely to form films.
About aggregation of SNOWTEX®
The higher the concentration of silica or the smaller the particle size, the easier to aggregate.
About compatibility with additives
Generally SNOWTEX® is compatible with anionic additives. Incompatibility may cause the SNOWTEX® to gel or agglomerate, so it is important to select the additives carefully.
About the difference between sol and powder (nano particle)
Slurry that powder is dispersed in solution may cause sedimentation of particle within a relatively short time due to secondary aggregation. In contrast, sol maintains dispersion state stably. Even if the specific surface area of powder particle is the same as that of sol, the dispersion state is quite different. Generally sol can show higher transparency than powder. Once sol is dried and becomes powder, it is difficult to be redispersed.
About production method of SNOWTEX®
SNOWTEX® is produced by liquid phase method from silicate.

Storage precautions

About storage condition of SNOWTEX®
Container must be tightly closed and stored indoor at room temperature (0-35℃) because SNOWTEX® properties is lost by gelation if it is left standing below 0℃. Generally SNOWTEX® should be used within 6 months after delivered, though that differs according to products.
About a dry gel
Colloid materials should be filtrated before use because dry gel is formed by opening and closing container.
About sedimentation of particle
Large particle may settle out by long storage, but it is possible to be redispersed by shaking.

Others

About export for Nissan's material
We export many grades to overseas such as US, Europe, China, South Korea, Taiwan and Southeast Asia countries.
About MOQ (Minimum Order Quantity)
Basically MOQ is 18kg or 20kg. If you need small samples, please contact us.
About the type of package
Pail is our regular package. Some grades have drum and container.
About the viscosity of SNOWTEX®
Around several mPa・s to several dozen mPa・s at room temperature.
