Functionality and applications of SNOWTEX®

Frictionizing
Friction factor is increased by silica particles adhering to surface of substrates.
Preferred grades
Large particles
Adhesion and coating
Strong adhesion is formed on surfaces of substrates.
Preferred grades
Silicate solution
Binding
Binding properties of silica particles can be obtained by mixing with ceramic particles and calcination.
Preferred grades
Small particles / Alkaline sol
Heat resistance
Good heat resistance and fire endurance are obtained.
Preferred grades
Acidic sol
Hydrophilic contribution
Improved wetting characteristics are obtained by Si-OH group and absorbed water.
Preferred grades
Small particles
Anti-blocking
Silica particles can make nano-sized concavity and convexity on the surface of films.
Preferred grades
Large particles
Hardness
Silica particles strengthen mechanical properties of organic resins.
Preferred grades
Small particles
High transparency
Transparency of films or composites can be kept due to nano particle.
Preferred grades
Small particles
Impregnation filling
Silica particles impregnate and fill porous materials to give smooth surface.
Preferred grades
Non-spherical particles
Abrasion
Spherical and hard particles can work for smooth polishing.
Preferred grades
Combination of several particles
Anti-corrosion
A dense film formed by particles functions as barrier material.
Preferred grades
Small particles
Gelation and viscosity increase
Formation of uniform gel and precipitated gel, uniform dispersion of powder and stabilization of suspension are attained.
Preferred grades
Small particles / Non-spherical particles
  • Applications
  • Grout, Gel battery etc.

Effects of pH change

Stability of SNOWTEX
The higher the concentration or the smaller the particle size, the greater the effect pH change. If a formulation or coating system has a neutral pH, or the formulation requires a colloidal silica with greater stability, ST-C can be used.

How to use SNOWTEX®

Example of using SNOWTEX
When use SNOWTEX®, refer to a below procedure to avoid particles aggregation.
  • 1. Pour SNOWTEX® into vessel firstly.
  • 2. Add solvent, resin and additives to SNOWTEX® with stirring.
